Blood and Wine (Fox 1996, Jack Nicholson, Jennifer Lopez)

The semi-sequel to Five Easy Pieces (1970) and The King of Marvin Gardens (1972) is a gritty, noirish crime drama. Alex Gates (Jack Nicholson) is a struggling, unscrupulous Florida wine dealer deeply in debt and scorned by his angry stepson Jason (Stephen Dorff) and hard-drinking wife Suzanne (Judy Davis). Alex’s affair with Cuban housemaid Gabriella (Jennifer Lopez) causes tension, but also provides an opportunity that may be the answer to his problems: Gabriella happens to work for a home with a multi-million dollar diamond necklace locked in a bedroom safe. The desperate Alex needs that loot, so he joins a dying safecracker, Victor Spansky (Michael Caine), to help with its theft.

Blood and Wine caps a series of films featuring Jack Nicholson directed by Bob Rafelson, after Head (1968), Five Easy Pieces (1970), The King of Marvin Gardens (1972), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) and Man Trouble (1992).
