Nicolas Cage stars as the eponymous Corelli, leader of the Italian invasion force that control the Greek island of Cephalonia. Billeted with the local doctor (John Hurt) he falls in love with his daughter (Penelope Cruz), even though she is engaged to resistance fighter Mandras (Christian Bale).
Slowly, his feelings are returned but their life and love is disrupted when the Italians surrender to the Allies. Should Corelli and his men join with the Germans and continue to resist or join the Greek resistance against the Nazis? John Madden’s film, based on Louis de Bernieres’ best-selling book is both a touching tale of an unlikely romance and a tense wartime drama.
