Count Your Blessings
Jean Negulesco directed melodrama Count Your Blessings about a proper Englishwoman (Deborah Kerr) who is romanced by and ultimately marries a charming continental rapscallion (Rossano Brazzi). Years later, with a nine-year-old son (Martin Stephens), the wife discovers that her husband has been having a series of flings.
She leaves him, and now it’s up to the little boy and his debonair great-uncle (Maurice Chevalier) to get the family back together. The great Franz Waxman’s score is a highlight. In 1984, at a nine-day New York retrospective of his work, director Negulesco was hailed as The Prince of Melodrama.
