Death in Venice (1971, Dirk Bogarde, Marisa Berenson)
In Luchino Visconti film Death in Venice, based on the novella by Thomas Mann, composer Gustav von Aschenbach, travels to Venice for health reasons. There, he becomes obsessed with the stunning beauty of an adolescent Polish boy named Tadzio who is staying with his family at the same Grand Hôtel des Bains on the Lido as Aschenbach.
David Wilson, speaking in the Monthly Film Bulletin remarked.. ‘Maybe a story as elusive as Death in Venice simply can’t be filmed. Visconti has made a brave attempt, always sensitive to the original; but it’s finally not quite the same thing.’
