Elf, directed by Jon Favreau, sees Will Ferrell playing Buddy, who as a human baby accidentally ended up in Santas sack and was adopted by Papa Elf (the legendary Bob Newhart). When Buddy discovers he is human he decides to track down his biological father, the none too likeable Walter Hobbs (James Caan) only to find himself working at Gimbels department store.

Walter eventually accepts Buddy as his son and takes him into the family home but as Christmas draws near Buddy finds himself called upon to help save the day when Santa gets into a spot of bother. Greatly entertaining in best family movie vein, there is also a nice subplot involving Zooey Deschanel as a co-worker as Gimbels who takes Buddy under her wing.
