Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The (1966, Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef)

Published

on

The culmination of Sergio Leone’s renowned Dollars series that includes A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965). Set during the Civil War, this wagonload of grit carries three desperadoes whose squinting eyes are fixed on a Confederate treasure. While dodging authorities, they keep busy stabbing each other firmly in the back. A typical Leone picture with brooding vistas, leisurely pacing, operatic violence, and a haunting score from Morricone.

Of the title of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly director Sergio Leone said, ‘The real West was the world of violence, fear, and brutal instincts. In pursuit of profit there is no such thing as good and evil; everything depends on chance.’
