Grace Quigley (1985, Katharine Hepburn, Nick Nolte)

Dark comedy details Grace Quigley (Katharine Hepburn) in the twilight years of her life. She wishes she were dead. Ageing alone in a New York apartment, Grace spies a hit man, Seymour Flint (Nick Nolte), making a kill and she blackmails him to off her, too. Seymour is not keen on the idea, but they then discover that many others are tired of life but aren’t quite up to killing themselves. So Grace, Seymour and his girlfriend open a professional ‘killing business.’

When Grace Quigley failed to impress at the Cannes Film Festival in its initial release, screenwriter A. Martin Zweibeck withdrew the film, reedited it to 94 minutes, and reissued the picture (to more favorable reviews) as The Ultimate Solution of Grace Quigley.
