Heartbreakers (2001, Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt)
Max and Page Conners (Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt) are a mother-and-daughter team working the sweetest of scams. Mom marries a rich guy, Page gets him into a compromising position, Mom walks in and – hey presto – big divorce settlement.
Until they try and latch onto tobacco tycoon William B Tensy (Gene Hackman), for whom Max actually begins to care, while Page falls for beach bar-owner Jack Withrowe (Jason My Name Is Earl Lee), whose property happens to be worth a cool $3m; does she want him more than his money? David Mirkin’s rom-com-crime film is full of genuine laughs thanks largely to the leads, who play the excellent gags for all they’re worth.
