Honky Tonk (MGM 1941, Clark Gable, Lana Turner)

Published

In Honky Tonk, tired of being run out of respectable burgs, gambler Gable decides to get wise and take over a town of his own, Yellow Creek, Nevada. Once there, he marries the daughter of the local justice of the peace and expands his illicit activities, until love turns him to the straight and narrow. This was the first pairing of Gable and Turner, but the obvious chemistry between the two leads ensured that it wouldn’t be the last.

In fact Honky Tonk was heavily promoted on the strength of the sparks struck by the teaming of Clark Gable and Lana Turner. MGM raved: “Clark Gable kisses Lana Turner and it’s screen history,” and, “Let’s be specific, they’re terrific.”
