Island, The (Universal 1980, Michael Caine, Jeffrey Frank)
A journalist (Michael Caine) and his son (Jeffrey Frank) set out to investigate the loss of a ship in the Bermuda Triangle, but they’re forced to crash land on a remote island inhabited by modern pirates. They take the two men hostage and intend to make the son the new leader of the tribe. The film’s highlight is another brilliant score by composer Ennio Morricone.
Michael Ritchie, who directed The Island, also helmed Divine Madness! that same year, which featured the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler. She would appear in a second special seventeen years later, Bette Midler in Concert: Diva Las Vegas (1997).
