Last Hunt, The (MGM 1956, Stewart Granger, Robert Taylor)
Veteran screenwriter and director Richard Brooks made a rare diversion from urban dramas like Deadline USA (1952) and Blackboard Jungle (1955) with this chilling story about a vicious buffalo hunter (Robert Taylor) who hunts down animals with equal parts joy and brutality. When he teams up with former hunter Sandy McKenzie (Stewart Granger), the two men clash and soon McKenzie must fight for his life.
The movie was filmed entirely on location in Custer National Park, North Dakota. The scenes of the buffalo being killed comes from stock footage of buffalo population control.
