Mile 22 (2018, Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich)

In action thriller Mile 22 CIA field officer James Silva and his team are in in Indonesia and are forced into a race against time to track down a cache of deadly ‘fear powder’ that has the potential to cause as much damage as a nuclear strike. An Indonesian cop, Li Noor, has the location of the cache but will only reveal it if he is given safe passage to the USA. The team embark on a deadly (and yes very action packed) 22 mile trip from the US embassy to an an airstrip where a plane has a brief window of opportunity to land and get them out.

Li Moor is played by Indonesian martial arts star Iko Uwais and he actually grabs one of the best scenes in the movie in a brutal fight with two men trying to kill him whilst he is on a hospital gurney. It’s a relentlessly bloody and violent movie but action packed in all the right places. The dialogue is also excellent with a surprisingly light touch admist the barrage of swearing.

Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg have previously collaborated on Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day. The pair are currently filming thriller Wonderland which is due for release in 2019.
