Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (RKO 1948, Cary Grant, Myrna Loy)

Published

on

A lively satire of the postwar American housing boom when optimism was epidemic and prosperity seemed a realistic dream for any working stiff. City resident Blandings (Grant) endures the trials and tribulations of architects, contractors, neighbors, and his suspicions about his wife (Loy) and lawyer (Douglas) as a first-time country homeowner.

Jason Robards, who plays John Retch in Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, is the father of the Oscar-winning actor of the same name. Robards Sr. acted in films from 1921 until 1961.
