Out of the Fog (Warner 1941, John Garfield, Ida Lupino)
In Out of the Fog John Garfield, a Brooklyn hood, puts the pressure on two Brooklyn fishermen (Thomas Mitchell and John Qualen) for a slice of their profits.
Handing over their savings, and all possibilities of buying a new boat, the bitter fishermen plot the thug’s death. Complications arise as Mitchell’s daughter, Ida Lupino, falls in love with Garfield. The murder attempt is botched, but the sea claims the rightful victim.
The source for Out of the Fog is a play, The Gentle People, by esteemed novelist Irwin Shaw.
