An inspirational, controversial teacher (Maggie Smith) at an exclusive girls’ school in Scotland in the ’30s finds her unorthodox methods and romantic idealization of the Italian fascists – place her career in jeopardy. Her romantic entanglements and competition with one of her students also complicate her life. Based on Jay Presson Allen’s play (which starred Vanessa Redgrave) of Muriel Spark’s novel.
Nine years after this version of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Geraldine McEwan starred in the title role in an ITV TV version.
