After her husband dies on their wedding night, spoiled Judy Benjamin (Goldie Hawn) decides to join the army, believing lies about exotic vacations and fancy clothes. Alas, Judy’s rude awakening comes a little late, with the swift introduction of her dill sergeant (Eileen Brennan) and an exposure to the realities of boot camp.
This updated version of the popular service comedy was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Actress (Hawn), Supporting Actress (Brennan) and screenplay.
Private Benjamin was Goldie Hawn’s first foray into production; she was Co-Executive Producer: on this film.
