Orson Welles and Claudette Colbert (how’s that for an odd couple?) star in wartime melodrama Tomorrow Is Forever. Shortly after Welles and Colbert marry, he’s wounded and scarred in WWI. Rather than burden his new wife and child, he vanishes into a new life in Austria. Colbert marries again and carries on happily until fate brings Welles to her husband Brent’s factory.

Natalie Wood, at age seven, had her first important film role as Orson Welles’ adopted daughter. Director Irving Pichel also helmed Wood’s screen debut–made under her real name, Natasha Gurdin–in Happy Land (1943).
