20/20: A Deadly Scream (ABC, Friday May 31, 2024)

20/20

An upcoming episode of 20/20, titled “A Deadly Scream,” will air on ABC on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 9:01 p.m. EDT. The program explores the Holly Bobo case, a tragic incident that gripped Tennessee in 2011.

In 2011, 20-year-old nursing student Holly Bobo was last seen entering the Tennessee woods with an unidentified man. Her remains were discovered three years later, miles from her home. This triggered the largest and most expensive investigation in the history of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). As a result, Zach Adams, Dylan Adams, and Jason Autry were charged with kidnapping and murdering Holly.

Despite the lack of physical evidence and DNA linking them to the crime, Zach Adams was convicted based primarily on Jason Autry’s testimony, where he claimed to have been present during the alleged murder. However, both Dylan Adams and Jason Autry eventually pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

In a surprising twist, Jason Autry recently recanted his testimony, stating that he fabricated the entire story. This development has led to lawyers for Zach Adams requesting a new trial, despite prosecutors maintaining their confidence in the original conviction.

The 20/20 episode features new insights from “GMA3” co-anchor Eva Pilgrim and includes never-before-seen footage of Jason Autry’s recantation. The program also contains an exclusive interview with Zach Adams in jail, along with interviews from original case investigators and Zach’s mother. Additionally, forensic psychologist Katie Spirko, Psy.D., who is working with the Adams family, provides her perspective.

20/20: A Deadly Scream airs Friday, May 31, 2024, at 9:01 p.m. EDT on ABC, with streaming available the next day on Hulu.
