On Friday night 20/20 examines the case of Dennis and Norma Woodruff, a couple from the Texas Bible Belt who were brutally murdered. Their son, Brandon Woodruff, was quickly suspected by authorities due to his alleged double life and the recovery of a weapon with the victim’s DNA. Brandon was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, but the question of his guilt remains divisive.
Brandon, from prison, claims his innocence and asserts that anti-gay bias influenced the investigation. The program explores the evidence against Brandon, including interviews with his grandmother, Bonnie Woodruff, and Allison Clayton, deputy director of the Innocence Project of Texas, who is aiding Brandon in his quest to clear his name.
The episode also features insights from jury members and witnesses during the trial, as well as footage of police interviews with Brandon and his friends. Was Brandon wrongfully convicted?
20/20: ‘Is He the Real Killer?’ airs Friday, August 9, 2024, from 9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT on ABC, and the next day on Hulu.
