This year’s Gasparilla Bowl (formerly the St. Petersburg Bowl, if anyone’s counting) offers a clash between the Tulane Green Wave and the Florida Gators. It all goes down at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, a first for this particular bowl, on Friday, December 20, at 3:30 PM Eastern on ESPN.
The Gators limp into the bowl season sporting a three-game winning streak, including a recent 31-11 drubbing of Florida State. That win offers a glimmer of hope after a season that, shall we say, hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. A win in Tampa might provide a touch of redemption and a platform for next season. Or, it could just be another bowl game.
Meanwhile, the Green Wave are licking their wounds after a loss to Army in the American Athletic Conference championship. They’re hoping a bowl victory can wash away the sting of that defeat and send them into the off-season with a bit of momentum. But given their recent performance, let’s just say their prospects feel less than certain.
This matchup might not be the Rose Bowl, but it’s football. And for fans of these two teams, it’s a chance to see their squads one last time before the long winter sets in.
The 2024 Gasparilla Bowl airs Friday, December 20th, at 3:30 PM Eastern on ESPN.
