So, you think you’ve heard it all in the world of true crime? Think again. This week’s 48 HOURS features a home invasion so bizarre, it sounds like a rejected comic book plot. Imagine: it’s New Year’s Day, 2021, and Morgan Metzer is confronted in her Canton, Georgia home by a masked intruder, his voice a chilling imitation of the Caped Crusader himself. Now, while a gravelly “I am vengeance” might work in Gotham, it’s considerably less welcome in the suburbs.

Enter Rod Metzer, Morgan’s ex-husband, who seemingly appears on the scene like a knight in slightly tarnished armor, rescuing her from the clutches of the faux-Batman. Hero, right? Maybe not. As 48 HOURS correspondent Nikki Battiste reveals, investigators started uncovering some, shall we say, inconsistencies in Rod’s narrative, turning this already strange story into a full-blown pretzel of suspicion and intrigue.

Battiste’s report digs into the twists and turns of the investigation, methodically pulling apart the threads of this warped mystery. It’s a story that raises more questions than it answers, at least initially. Was Rod genuinely a savior, or did he orchestrate the whole thing? Did the “Batman” voice disguise actually fool anyone? And most importantly, how does one even begin to explain this to the neighbors?

“The ‘Batman’ Intruder” will undoubtedly leave you with your jaw slightly agape. It’s a prime example of why true crime continues to fascinate — reality, as they say, is often far more outlandish than fiction, especially when it involves questionable voice impersonations and potentially staged heroics. Tune in to CBS this Saturday at 10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT, or stream it on Paramount+ to unravel this particularly strange tale. Don’t expect a happy ending, but do expect a healthy dose of “what the heck?”
