48 HOURS Finale Digs Into Family Tensions And Legal Crossfire In “My Mother’s Murder Trials”

48 Hours Key Art

The season finale of 48 HOURS zeroes in on one of its most emotionally fraught and legally tangled stories to date, as CBS airs a two-hour special titled My Mother’s Murder Trials on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

Veteran correspondent Jim Axelrod leads the investigation into Dana Chandler, a woman at the center of a double homicide case fueled by courtroom reversals, dueling narratives, and the shocking twist of a daughter who believes her mother may be a killer.

Chandler is accused of murdering her ex-husband Mike Sisco and his fiancée Karen Harkness back in 2002. This latest episode revisits the case with new angles, fresh interviews, and Chandler’s own testimony—some of it never seen before. The episode also features archive material to contextualize the long and winding legal road, including two murder trials and multiple appeals.

Hailey Seel, Chandler’s daughter and the one who first raised suspicions, is among those interviewed. Supporters of Chandler’s innocence, like Darryl Burton (co-founder of Miracle of Innocence), and former appeals attorney Stacey Schlimmer, also weigh in. Prosecutors, including Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay, lay out the case they say finally brought justice.

Also featured: lead investigator Detective Richard Volle and family members of the victims, including Dustin Sisco, Cathy Boots, Mark Boots, Chad Harkness, and Erin Sutton, who offer firsthand accounts of the emotional and legal toll of the case.
