Channel 9’s 60 Minutes presents two hard-hitting investigative reports in its latest episode airing on Sunday, 25 August 2024, at 8:30 pm.
Building Bad: Five weeks ago, 60 Minutes brought to light alleged corruption and infiltration by underworld figures and bikies within the CFMEU, Australia’s most militant trade union. The exposé, led by Nick McKenzie, prompted immediate fallout and promises of reform. The Construction and General division of the union has been placed into administration, and the positions of hundreds of officials terminated. However, the investigation hasn’t concluded yet. McKenzie and his team have found that the corruption extends further than initially thought.
Scam HQ: While the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has made strides in shutting down phishing and investment scam websites, preventing millions of dollars in losses, the scammers are adapting and continuing to profit. Adam Hegarty’s report looks at the sophisticated tactics employed by scam operations headquartered in Myanmar. Trans-national crime bosses have harnessed the power of human trafficking to force a workforce of 120,000 scammers to defraud westerners.
