CBS’s “60 Minutes” turns its attention to a range of subjects this week, from international espionage to the ongoing battle against gun trafficking and a rising star in the world of jazz. First, Lesley Stahl sits down with former Mossad agents who, for the first time, are discussing a decade-long undercover operation against Hezbollah. The agents reveal previously unknown details about how they used exploding pagers and walkie-talkies to surprise Hezbollah fighters, creating a ripple effect across the region, from Lebanon to Syria to Iran.

Then, Sharyn Alfonsi examines the flow of illegal firearms from the United States into Mexico. The segment, titled “The Iron River,” explores Mexico’s legal action against U.S. gun manufacturers and dealers and the various efforts to control the flow of weapons to the cartels. The piece highlights the sheer volume of this illicit trade, with estimates of 200,000 to half a million American firearms smuggled south each year.

Finally, Bill Whitaker catches up with Samara Joy, a 25-year-old jazz vocalist whose talent has been described as generational. “Joy to the World” provides a front-row seat as the Grammy winner puts her own spin on jazz classics during her Christmas tour. Viewers will get a glimpse into Joy’s family, a gospel dynasty, and their effect on her musical journey.
