“7/7: Britain’s Day of Terror” Set for Sky Documentaries
To commemorate the upcoming 20th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings, Sky has announced that a three-part documentary series titled 7/7: Britain’s Day of Terror (w/t) will premiere on Sky Documentaries and NOW in 2025. The shocking events of 7 July 2005, when 52 people were killed and over 700 were injured in London as part of an Al-Qaeda campaign, are chronicled in this Sky Original series.
What is the docuseries about
This series, from Sky Studios’ Blast Films, will delve deep into the events surrounding one of the worst terrorist attacks ever committed in Britain. This series will reveal an exciting new perspective on the 7/7 bombings by speaking with people who were there and who have never spoken publicly about their experiences. Stories from the investigators desperately searching for answers, the ordinary citizens caught in the middle of it all, and the unseen voices of those closely connected to the perpetrators will all be told simultaneously. The complex social, moral, and political context that underpinned the tragedy will be better understood in light of new information about the bombers’ backgrounds and motivations. One of the main goals of the show is to explain what caused the events of 7/7.
From the initial explosion and the frantic search for intel on the bombers to the failed second attack that followed 2 weeks later, the Police and Counter Terror investigation are chronicled through compelling first-person testimony and raw, unseen archive. This sparked the largest manhunt in British history, and in the midst of rising panic and racial tension, police fatally shot Jean Charles De Menezes after mistaking him for one of the suicide bombers. This definitive account of 7/7 will be told for the first time by those with close and intimate connections, and will weave together the story of radicalization in Britain and the geopolitical context.
