7 Little Johnstons: New Season, New Grandkid, Same Old Squabbles

7 Little Johnstons Key Art

The appeal of 7 Little Johnstons isn’t its earth-shattering drama or profound social commentary. It’s the Johnstons themselves: a big, boisterous family dealing with everyday life in a way that’s both relatable and, let’s face it, occasionally train-wreck-y. And the new season, premiering Tuesday, January 7, on TLC, looks to deliver the usual mix of heartwarming moments and head-scratching decisions.

The main event this time around is the arrival of Liz and Brice’s little bundle of joy, Leighton. Get ready for Lolly and Boppa (that’s Trent and Amber, upgrading to their grandparent titles) to smother the newborn with affection. Will Liz and Brice manage the transition to parenthood with their usual grace, or will sleep deprivation and diaper changes push them to the brink? Only time will tell.

But while the family welcomes a new member, they’re also facing a health scare with patriarch Trent. Details are scarce, but it’s safe to say the family will rally around him, likely with a healthy dose of Amber’s signature brand of tough love.

Amidst the baby bliss and medical mysteries, there are, of course, the usual Johnston milestones. Trent and Amber are hitting their 25th wedding anniversary, proving that true love can survive even the most chaotic family gatherings. And graduations abound, though not without a touch of family drama. Anna, apparently allergic to pomp and circumstance, decides to skip Alex and Emma’s high school graduation, creating a predictable rift. Seriously, Anna, couldn’t you have just faked a headache?

As the Johnstons juggle a new baby, health concerns, and the usual interpersonal fireworks, one thing’s for certain: this season will be anything but dull. Tune in to TLC on Tuesday, January 7, at 9/8c to witness the controlled chaos unfold.
