The Johnstons are back, and this time, they’re tackling the holidays with a new addition: baby Leighton. In “A White-ish Christmas,” the family celebrates Leighton’s first Christmas, but the festivities aren’t without their share of relatable family chaos. From decorating dilemmas to new parent anxieties and the ever-present struggles of raising a large family, the Johnstons once again offer a glimpse into their bustling lives.
As any parent knows, leaving a newborn for the first time is no easy feat. Liz and Brice experienced this firsthand during their first night out since Leighton’s arrival. Despite their best efforts to enjoy some much-needed couple time, their minds (and phones) remained glued to their baby monitor. The struggle is real, folks.
Meanwhile, Anna’s venturing back into the dating world, much to the delight of her matchmaking best friend. A blind date might be on the horizon, and while Anna seems apprehensive, the possibility of new romance adds a touch of intrigue to the family dynamics.
Amid the holiday cheer, Trent faces a difficult situation with his aging father. Declining health necessitates conversations about future care and potential living arrangements. It’s a weighty issue, made even more complicated by the Johnstons’ already full house.
The episode also offers lighter moments, like the family’s humorous debate about the, shall we say, distinctive aroma of baby formula. Jonah’s comparison to “dog food gone bad” is both cringeworthy and hilariously relatable. And who can forget the epic gift-wrapping challenge, with Amber taking the crown (and Brice winning the less competitive “best among the guys” category)? Amber’s insistence on matching Christmas pajamas for the entire family, including baby Leighton, made for a memorable, albeit slightly cheesy, photo opportunity. Finally, Trent’s attempt to create a “white Christmas” with a snow machine (because snow in Georgia is about as common as a silent night in their household) added a touch of whimsicality to the episode.
