After more than two decades broadcasting from Docklands, 7NEWS Melbourne has officially flipped the switch on its new home—an ultra-modern facility at Melbourne Quarter Tower (MQT) on Collins Street.
The move marks a major turning point for Seven’s Victorian operations, with the network’s entire Melbourne news and sport output—7NEWS bulletins, Sunday Footy Feast, The Wash Up, and Seven Horse Racing—now produced from a purpose-built, digitally integrated newsroom.
Tonight’s 7NEWS at 6:00 pm will be the first bulletin aired from the new studios, with longtime anchors Peter Mitchell, Rebecca Maddern, and Jane Bunn fronting the historic broadcast. Mitchell, who has anchored the 6:00pm news every weeknight since March 2002, remains a constant presence through this significant transition. “It’s bigger. The screens are cleaner and crisper. It’s a better viewing experience,” he said of the new setup.
The Melbourne facility mirrors Seven’s Eveleigh headquarters in Sydney and includes some of the most advanced broadcast technology currently operating in the country. The digital IP-based infrastructure, high-definition LED news set, and full-scale sports control room are part of a broader two-year transformation of Seven’s Melbourne base.
In addition to its news programming, the site also houses a dedicated studio for Sunrise, giving the national breakfast show a more flexible presence in Melbourne.
Jeff Howard, Managing Director and CEO of Seven West Media, called the investment a reflection of the network’s commitment to Victoria, noting the city’s central role in Seven’s national strategy. Anthony De Ceglie, Seven’s Director of News and Current Affairs and Editor-in-Chief, described the studio move as the beginning of a new chapter.
The network officially began broadcasting from the MQT facility on Monday, April 14, 2025.
