The latest season of 9-1-1, which premiered on ABC on Thursday evening, opened with a dramatic episode titled “Buzzkill.” The 118 firehouse team faces a new emergency when a trailer filled with millions of bees crashes in Los Angeles.

The situation quickly spirals out of control as the bees swarm the city, putting countless lives at risk. While the team works to contain the chaos, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) grapples with the fallout of his decision to retire and then reverse it, but red tape and a new problematic captain, Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson), create additional challenges for the team.

Meanwhile, Athena Grant’s (Angela Bassett) day takes a difficult turn when she is tasked with escorting Dennis Jenkins (Glenn Plummer), a dangerous inmate who murdered her fiancé, from Arizona to Los Angeles. Jenkins has agreed to testify about a human trafficking ring but only if Athena handles his transport.

Though she despises Jenkins, she takes on the mission, knowing it’s the only way to keep him alive long enough to testify. This complex assignment becomes even more dangerous when an impostor attempts to ambush her and Jenkins.
