Channel 4 is reteaming with rising UK talent Molly Manning Walker on Major Players, a half-hour drama backed by indie powerhouse A24 and set in the world of grassroots women’s football.

Walker—fresh off Cannes and BAFTA buzz for How To Have Sex—co-writes the six-part series with Yasmin Joseph (A Thousand Blows), drawing from her own teenage years and Sunday league experience founding Babe City FC, a now-180-member squad for women and non-binary filmmakers.

Major Players follows two young women dealing with the messiness of early adulthood while trying to launch a women’s team from scratch. The show leans hard into the humour, heartache, and politics of Gen Z friendships, all filtered through the lens of sport and identity in modern-day London.

Walker is set to direct and executive produce. Matthew Mulot, whose credits include breakout Netflix hit Baby Reindeer, produces. The greenlight comes from Ollie Madden, Gwawr Lloyd, and Farhana Bhula at Channel 4.

The six-episode series marks A24’s continued push into UK originals and extends Channel 4’s investment in youth-skewing scripted fare with cultural bite. Casting is still under wraps.
