Abbott Elementary: Books (ABC, Wednesday, March 5, 2025)

Abbott Elementary Key Art

The teachers of Abbott Elementary are about to learn that literary skirmishes can be just as dramatic as playground politics. In this week’s aptly titled episode, “Books,” a debate erupts over a controversial book, leading Principal Ava to take what she probably considers decisive action: removing the book from the school library entirely. As one might expect, this doesn’t go over well.

Ava’s decision sparks a backlash from parents, who want the book reinstated. Now, Janine and her fellow teachers are caught in the crossfire. Will they side with Ava, the parents, or attempt some precarious balancing act in the name of school harmony? Given Abbott’s history, we can probably rule out the “harmony” option.

“Books” has the potential to be another standout episode, tackling a thorny real-world issue with the show’s signature blend of humor and heart. It will be fascinating to see how the different perspectives on censorship and intellectual freedom play out within the Abbott Elementary ecosystem. Will this literary debate lead to a full-blown school war? Tune in to ABC this Wednesday, March 5th at 8:30 PM ET.
