ABC Adelaide to Explore Relocation After 50 Years at Collinswood Site

Australian TV News

After 50 years at its Collinswood location, the ABC is exploring relocation options in Adelaide. A joint feasibility study with the South Australian government will assess the broadcaster’s needs and seek a more central location, potentially within an arts precinct.

The current five-acre site, opened in 1974, houses over 200 ABC staff and now also accommodates Country Arts SA, with the State Theatre Company and State Opera set to join them for the next four years. ABC Managing Director David Anderson emphasized the need for facilities equipped for a modern broadcaster’s technological demands.

While the current building is “reaching the end of its suitability,” Anderson assured audiences that services would not be reduced, and the existing footprint of regional bureaus would remain. The study will gather input from staff, stakeholders, and current leaseholders, and will also determine if the site will be sold in whole or in part.

Arts Minister Andrea Michaels welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the arts and creative industries. The move is slated for 2029.
