A&E’s “Accused: Did I Do It?” turns its lens on a controversial midwifery case this Thursday, examining the blurry line between negligence and responsible care. The episode, “Negligent Midwife or Responsible Caregiver?,” takes us to Nebraska, where a home birth ended in tragedy. The question at the heart of the matter: was the unlicensed midwife responsible for the child’s death?

The prosecution points fingers, alleging Negligent Child Abuse Resulting in Death. They question the midwife’s qualifications and the choices she made during the delivery. The defense, however, maintains that the midwife acted appropriately given the circumstances, that the tragic outcome was not a result of her actions.

The series specializes in piecing together the key turning points, the evidence, and the difficult decisions that ultimately lead to criminal charges – and, of course, a verdict. Was this a case of criminal negligence or a tragic accident beyond anyone’s control?
