Acorn TV has released a first look at the detective drama Ellis, starring three-time Olivier Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Sharon D. Clarke. Set to premiere in November 2024, this chilling three-part series follows DCI Ellis, a tenacious detective brought in to solve failing investigations.
Each episode finds Ellis, accompanied by her trusted partner DS Harper (Andrew Gower), immersed in a different local police station, tackling complex cases while facing the challenges of being a Black female cop in a male-dominated field. Ellis’s determination for justice and deep compassion drive her to succeed, even as she faces dismissal and oversight from colleagues.
Ellis is produced by Company Pictures in association with Northern Ireland Screen. It was commissioned for Acorn TV by Catherine Mackin, Managing Director of Acorn Media Enterprises, who also executive produces. The series was ordered for Channel 5 by Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar. Executive producers for Company Pictures are Michele Buck and Lucy Raffety, with Chris Martin producing and Paul Logue and Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre writing. International distribution is handled by All3 Media International.
