Acorn TV’s “The Gone” Premieres Monday, January 20

The Gone Key Art

Vanishing acts are a dime a dozen in fiction, but “The Gone,” a new six-part series premiering on Acorn TV this Monday, January 20, at 3:01 AM EST, aims to offer a fresh take on the well-worn trope. This time, the disappearance takes place in the stunning, yet often unforgiving landscapes of New Zealand, adding a unique backdrop to an already complicated case.

When an Irish couple goes missing, the investigation falls to an unlikely duo: Detective Theo Richter (Richard Flood, “Grey’s Anatomy”), a by-the-book Irishman struggling with his own personal demons, and Detective Diana Huia (Acushla-Tara Kupe, “Under The Vines”), a sharp-witted Maori investigator. The clash of cultures, investigative styles, and personal baggage is sure to provide ample dramatic fodder.

The first two episodes, dropping on January 20, establish the central mystery and introduce the key players. We see Richter and Huia grapple with the initial investigation, each battling their own prejudices and internal struggles as they try to make sense of the disappearance. Is it a simple case of misadventure? Or is there something more sinister at play, perhaps connected to a series of historical murders that have haunted the region for years?

With Michelle Fairley (“Game of Thrones”) also on board, the series certainly has the acting chops to pull off a compelling mystery. For fans of international crime dramas and twisty mysteries, “The Gone” might just be the perfect antidote to the January blues.

“The Gone” premieres Monday, January 20, 2025, with the first two episodes available at 3:01 AM EST on Acorn TV. New episodes will follow on subsequent Mondays.
