Adventure Reality Competition Series “Destination X” Set for NBC and BBC

Destination X

“Destination X,” the highly anticipated adventure reality competition series, is a collaboration between NBC and the BBC, marking the second joint commission between the two networks following the success of The Traitors. The show is based on the award-winning Belgian format created by Geronimo and distributed globally by Be-Entertainment.

The series combines fantasy and reality, sending ten contestants on a road trip without knowing their location. The contestants board the innovative Destination X bus, where reality is tweaked to mislead them and the viewers at home. The bus features blacked-out blinds and virtual reality headsets, enhancing the immersive experience.

Throughout the journey, contestants must follow clues to determine if they can trust what they see and solve puzzles to uncover their location. The gameplay is designed to be interactive, with viewers encouraged to play along and guess the locations alongside the contestants. At the end of each episode, the player who places their “X” on a map furthest from the bus’s actual location is eliminated, losing their chance at a cash prize.

The remaining participants then search for the host, who communicates with them from a secret command post using state-of-the-art technology. The host’s location becomes another puzzle for the contestants to solve.

The Belgian version, which premiered on February 20, 2023, consistently won its Monday evening time slot, attracting a large market share of 18-44-year-olds.

The North American rights for the series were secured by Toby Gorman and Ed Havard for Universal Television Alternative Studio, with the BBC’s Kate Phillips and Syeda Irtizaali acquiring the UK rights for BBC One and iPlayer. The show will be produced by Twofour, a British production company that is part of ITV Studios.
