Alan Carr’s Nostalgia Sitcom “Changing Ends” Now Filming for ITVX

An all-new autobiographical comedy titled Changing Ends, starring Alan Carr, has begun filming for ITVX.
Produced by Baby Cow Productions (Chivalry, The Witchfinder, Gavin & Stacey, Alan Partridge), the series will air on ITVX and ITV1 and run for six 30 minute episodes
Alan Carr and co-writer Simon Carlyle, winner of British Academy Television Awards and the Royal Television Society Award for his work on the series Two Doors Down, drew inspiration from Alan’s upbringing in Northampton in the 1980s as the son of a fourth division football manager to create Changing Ends.
Present-day Alan will be played by Alan, and up-and-comer Oliver Savell (Belfast) will portray him as a kid . Taylor Fay will play Alan’s younger brother Gary, and Shaun Dooley and Nancy Sullivan have been cast as his parents Graham and Christine.
Alan’s neighbours are played by Rourke Mooney and Gabby Best as Charlie and Angela along with Harry Peacock as Nigel. Guest stars will include David Mumeni as Mr Chapman and Michael Socha as Adam.\
The comedy will be more than a simple look back in time; it will be an ode to a place and era that weren’t always so welcoming. Warm and funny, it recounts Alan’s coming-of-age and coming-to-terms with himself in the context of Thatcher’s Britain. Whether it’s his sexual awakenings, his daily battle with bullies, or his navigation of the highs and lows of Fourth division football, Alan’s experience as a gay adolescent in the East Midlands is a treasure trove with a rich comedy seam, as evidenced in many of his stand-up shows. Finding one’s identity when one’s family is Match of the Day and yourself is a bit Miss Marple all while juggling school and family life.
The series is produced by Baby Cow Productions and written by Alan Carr and Simon Carlyle. The director is Dave Lambert. The Exec producers are Baby Cow’s Sarah Monteith and Rupert Majendie, alongside Alan Carr, Danny Julian and Simon Carlyle. Mollie Freedman Berthoud will serve as series producer.
The series will premiere first on ITVX.
