Alan Titchmarsh, national treasure and horticultural guru, turns his attention to the canine world. “Underdog to Superdog” sees him partnering with dog trainers in the noble pursuit of transforming unruly pups into working wonders. Who needs perfectly pruned roses when you can have a perfectly behaved Sprocker Spaniel?
The premiere episode introduces us to Lychee, the “Lockdown Dog” whose strong sense of smell is about to be put to good use. Fire investigation dog trainer Clive Gregory steps up to the challenge. Lychee, clearly a dog of discerning taste, decided to cooperate with someone whose name also happens to be a delicious tropical fruit.
Meanwhile, dog trainer Lucy Heath tackles Freddie, a poodle whose focus issues would give a hummingbird pause. The goal? To transform Freddie into a canine model. It’s a lofty ambition, but if anyone can achieve the impossible, it’s a dog trainer with the patience of a saint and a seemingly endless supply of treats.
“Underdog to Superdog” taps into the enduring appeal of animal transformation stories. We love to see a scrappy underdog rise to the occasion, and this series gives us that in spades. Expect heartwarming moments, training triumphs, and perhaps a few muddy paw prints along the way.
“Alan Titchmarsh’s Underdog to Superdog” premieres Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 19:00 on Channel 5.
