On the third episode of this new run of Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small, titled “Homecoming,” the community gathers to celebrate Jimmy’s christening. Helen (Rachel Shenton) and Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley) prepare to host James’s parents, while Siegfried works on his speech as the baby’s godparent. James’s parents are overjoyed to see their grandchild, but Helen finds herself unsure about how to interpret some of Hannah Herriot’s remarks.
Siegfried (Samuel West) gets an unexpected telegram from Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), announcing his return home. Overjoyed at the prospect of his brother’s safe homecoming, Siegfried makes a vow to himself that he will soon find challenging to keep. The reunion between the brothers is touching, and Siegfried is relieved to have Tristan back.
Meanwhile, James is tasked with helping Mrs. Hanley’s poodle, which has an unusual attachment to a toy. Hannah and Helen join forces to figure out what’s troubling the dog and end up finding common ground. Siegfried is less than pleased when he’s called to Biggins Farm to examine a goat. Biggins proves to be a challenging client, and his farm presents as many difficulties as the man himself.
When Siegfried confronts Biggins about his neglect of a sick goat, he loses his temper not just with the farmer but also with those around him. Tristan steps in to help teach Biggins a lesson, and in doing so, the brothers rediscover their familiar dynamic.
