The $250,000 question has been answered—Shay, a 30-year-old professional trapper from New Zealand, has officially won Season 3 of Alone Australia, outlasting nine other competitors over a grueling 76-day survival test in Tasmania’s West Coast Ranges.

The series, produced by ITV Studios Australia for SBS, wrapped its third season with a final, gut-wrenching episode followed by Alone Australia: The Reunion, hosted by Kumi Taguchi. The reunion pulled together the full cast for a raw postmortem on one of the franchise’s most punishing runs to date.

Shay’s win comes with a clear mission—securing a debt-free future for his family. From day one, he was in it for the long haul, vowing to stay up to 300 days if needed. His commitment paid off, bolstered by a resourceful diet that included more than 1100 worms, 23 trout, 13 eels, moth pupae (which he dubbed “cheese fries”), and, late in the game, a key survival moment: bagging a pademelon.

Two other finalists came close. Muzza was forced out after 73 days due to medical evacuation, and Corinne voluntarily tapped out on day 70, saying goodbye to the wild to start a family.

The numbers back the season’s intensity. More than 3.5 million viewers tuned in, with 41% of those coming via SBS On Demand—a strong digital showing that highlights the franchise’s reach across platforms.
