“Ambulance” also examines the invaluable role of mental health cars, specialized units designed to provide on-scene support for individuals experiencing mental distress. The episode shows how these teams work to de-escalate crises and connect patients with the appropriate resources, often preventing unnecessary hospitalizations. Call handler Louis is also shown patiently supporting a patient who is experiencing a mental breakdown. We also see how paramedic Naimah’s own life experiences create an understanding for the people she treats.
