Leave it to “American Dad!” to turn a simple premise into utter chaos. In “Idiot Rich,” the Smith family’s resident mooch, Jeff, finally gets a job. But instead of the predictable “get a life” storyline, things take a wildly unexpected turn when Jeff becomes inexplicably wealthy. Suddenly, the family that once scorned him is singing a very different tune.
The power dynamic in the Smith household gets flipped on its head, and, naturally, greed takes center stage. It’s up to Hayley, ever the voice of reason (as much as one can be in this family), to shield Jeff from the family’s avarice. Given the Smith family’s track record, that’s a tall order.
“Idiot Rich,” the tenth episode of “American Dad!’s” 20th season, looks set to deliver the show’s signature blend of absurd humor and social satire. It airs Monday, December 30, 2024, on TBS.
