American Dad! “Touch the Sun: A Chimborazo Adventure”

American Dad! Key Art

Apparently, even animated families feel the pinch of inflation. In the upcoming American Dad! episode, “Touch the Sun: A Chimborazo Adventure,” the Smiths’ grand plans to conquer Mount Everest are abruptly downgraded when Stan, ever the penny-pincher, discovers a cheaper alternative: Chimborazo, a volcano in Ecuador. What could possibly go wrong?

Trading the Himalayas for the Andes, the Smith family’s quest for glory takes a decidedly less glamorous turn. While Chimborazo might boast the distinction of being the furthest point from the Earth’s core (take that Everest!), its active volcano status adds a certain frisson of danger to the Smiths’ budget-friendly expedition.

One can only imagine the mayhem Stan’s frugality will unleash on the unsuspecting slopes of this Ecuadorian peak. Will Francine maintain her composure amidst volcanic ash and bargain-brand climbing gear? Can Hayley find a way to protest the exploitation of indigenous Sherpas (or their Ecuadorian equivalent)? Will Steve manage to impress a girl, even at high altitude? And what fresh hell will Roger unleash, this time clad in ill-fitting mountaineering apparel?

“Touch the Sun: A Chimborazo Adventure” looks set to deliver another dose of classic American Dad! absurdity. Given the show’s history, it’s a safe bet that Stan’s cheapskate approach will backfire spectacularly. Fans can reasonably expect a chaotic blend of physical comedy, outlandish scenarios, and perhaps even a poignant moment or two, all set against the stunning, if slightly less iconic, backdrop of Chimborazo.

Don’t forget, American Dad! airs Mondays at 10:00 PM ET/PT on TBS.
