Well,it’s come down to this. After months of auditions, eliminations, and enough key changes to make a piano tuner retire, “American Idol” is ready to crown its latest champion. This Sunday, one of the Top 3 – John Foster, Jamal Roberts, or Breanna Nix – will join the ranks of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and other “Idol” alumni who’ve gone on to music stardom (or at least moderate Spotify success).
The “Grand Finale” is a three-hour live extravaganza, so pace yourselves with the snacks and the screaming. Expect the typical “Idol” mix of soaring ballads, questionable song choices, and enough emotional montages to fill a Ken Burns documentary. The judges will offer their final critiques before America’s votes are tallied.
But the real draw, aside from finding out who wins, is the usual “Idol” finale guest list. Will it be a parade of nostalgia acts and current chart-toppers? Tune in to ABC this Sunday, May 18 at 8:00 PM ET to find out who wins, who gets a record deal they’ll likely regret, and whether Ryan Seacrest has finally achieved immortality.
