Amol Rajan To Host New Season University Challenge on BBC Two

The UK’s toughest quiz show, University Challenge, is back on BBC Two and iPlayer. There are now 28 brand-new student teams, with members knowledgeable in fields as diverse as aromatic compounds and Zeno of Citium. On July 17th, Amol Rajan will take over as host of University Challenge, marking the premiere of the show’s new season.

What Can We Expect from the New Season

The show’s set and opening credits have been updated, but otherwise the tried-and-true formula has been kept intact. As the theme song plays, viewers know to expect intense competition between some of the nation’s smartest college students, all while listening to Roger Tilling’s distinctive announcing style. University colleges and universities from Aberdeen to Southampton are represented, as is one of the newest and smallest institutions in the United Kingdom.

Amol Rajan, the show’s new host, will be only the third host in the show’s 61-year run, and he’ll bring his own unique style to the role. Despite some of the show’s most challenging questions, he will ensure that matches are fast, fiercely fought, and full of energy.

Radio 4’s flagship Today programme host Amol Rajan also hosts his own prime-time interview show, aptly titled Amol Rajan Interviews. Podcasts on Education, Climate Change, Fairness, and Population are hosted by Rajan on the BBC. His most recent docuseries, How to Crack the Class Ceiling, is another of his forays into the documentary filmmaking world.

What does Amol say

Amol Rajan comments, “We’re back! I’m so excited to watch along with audiences and relive this wonderful series. And what a wonderful series it is, with thrilling finishes and standards as high as ever.”

Audiences can watch University Challenge on 17 July at 8:30pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
