Alice Roberts is taking viewers on a historical rail journey through Ancient Greece, starting this Saturday on Channel 4. Her mode of transport? The train, of course, offering a unique perspective on the landscapes and cities that shaped this pivotal civilization.
In this premiere episode, Alice begins her journey in Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece. There, she explores the legacy of Alexander the Great and his father, Philip II of Macedon, two figures who left an indelible mark on the ancient world. She’ll also visit a newly opened museum housing a remarkably well-preserved burial chamber belonging to ancient Greek royalty, offering a glimpse into their lives and rituals.
From Thessaloniki, Alice travels south to Delphi, a site considered by many to be the greatest of the ancient Greek world. Here, amid the ruins, she explores the history and significance of this once-sacred place. “Ancient Greece by Train” explores the development of philosophy, art, theatre, and even the very concept of democracy, tracing their roots to this ancient land. Join Alice Roberts on this historical expedition this Saturday at 8:00 PM on Channel 4.
