National Geographic Wild launches its new series “Animals, They’re Just Like Us!” this Friday, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a celebration of the surprisingly human-like behaviors of animals around the globe. From the icy plains of Antarctica to the lush jungles of the Amazon, the series sets out to demonstrate how animals compete, cooperate, love, and even grieve, mirroring our own experiences in often unexpected ways.

In the premiere episode, “A Penguin Proposal,” viewers will witness a penguin’s elaborate courtship display. It’s more than just flapping wings and squawking; there’s genuine affection on display, as clear as any human romantic gesture. Elsewhere, a flamingo shows off some surprising makeup skills, while a determined badger pulls off daring escapes that would make Houdini proud.
