Turns out, humans aren’t the only species concerned with oral hygiene. National Geographic Wild’s “Animals, They’re Just Like Us!” continues its charming exploration of the animal kingdom, finding surprisingly relatable behaviors in creatures across the globe. This Friday’s episode, “Shark Dentist,” focuses on the ways animals maintain their pearly whites (or, in some cases, not-so-pearly).
Yes, a “fishy hygienist” is on the agenda, but the episode isn’t just about underwater dental care. We’ll also see a monkey putting its tool-using skills to work and witness some rather affectionate giraffes. From the depths of the ocean to the savannas of Africa, animals share some unexpectedly human-like characteristics.
If previous episodes – which featured dolphins creating names for themselves and flamingos engaging in a bit of “makeup” application – are anything to go by, “Shark Dentist” should offer a mix of the educational and the amusing. The series touches down on all seven continents, observing animals competing, cooperating, loving, and even grieving, mirroring many of the behaviors we think of as uniquely human.
“Animals, They’re Just Like Us!” airs Friday, April 4 at 10:00 PM ET on National Geographic Wild and will be available to stream on Hulu.
