The charming countryside of Oxfordshire sets the scene for this episode of “Antiques Road Trip.” Irita Marriott and Danny Sebastian, in their vibrant 1965 powder-blue Beetle, embark on their usual quest for hidden treasures, their competitive spirit adding zest to the proceedings. Their search takes them from bustling antique emporiums to quiet, forgotten corners, each location holding the promise of discovery.
Danny, with his penchant for the quirky, acquires a doggie vesta case and an Archibald Knox-designed Liberty vase. Irita, the consummate collector, expands her porcelain tea set collection and unearths a remarkable necklace in a forgotten jewelry box. The excitement of the hunt is infectious as the experts engage in their playful banter, their love of antiques on full display.
A stop at the Bodleian Library offers a fascinating look at rare 16th-century booklets, a welcome change of pace from the usual auction-room drama. As always, “singing and dancing and general hijinks” accompany the serious business of antique dealing.
