PBS’s venerable Antiques Roadshow rolls into Living History Farms for its second hour of appraisals this Monday. While some may find the prospect of watching people discuss old stuff about as exciting as watching paint dry, there’s a certain voyeuristic pleasure in seeing what treasures – and trash – emerge from attics and basements across America.
This week, football fans are in for a treat with the appraisal of a ticket stub from the legendary 1967 NFL Championship game, better known as the “Ice Bowl.” For those unfamiliar, this game saw the Green Bay Packers triumph over the Dallas Cowboys in frigid conditions, solidifying their place in football history. The stub itself is a tangible piece of sports lore, and its valuation will likely be a highlight of the episode.
Beyond the gridiron, the appraisers also turn their attention to a 1989 letter from Ronald Reagan. Presidential memorabilia always draws interest, so it’s safe to say this appraisal will be watched with a keen eye. Rounding out the highlights is a Robert Riggs “Saturday Evening Post” illustration, proving the show’s range extends beyond dusty furniture and forgotten trinkets.
Antiques Roadshow’s gentle pace and focus on history and craftsmanship provide a welcome respite from the constant barrage of reality shows and procedurals. Tune in to PBS at 8:00 PM ET/PT this Monday to see how much that “Ice Bowl” ticket is really worth.
